Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in Mongolia. The settlement of Terelj is located in the valley of the Terelj river, about 66 km from the city center of Ulan Bator. The highest point is Mountain Av khan 2664 meters. The park also has a Buddhist monastery open to visitors. The park's wildlife includes brown bears and over 250 species of birds. The Tuul river flows through the park. The park has many rock formations for climbers and includes two famous formations named for things they look like: Turtle Rock (Mongolian: Melkhii Khad) and the old man reading a book (Praying Lama Rock).

The park stretches along the Chinese border from the Russian border to 200 km south following the Altai Mountains, which form the borders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia.
